1) SELF-PUBLISHING: It's defined as the publishing of books, music, CDs, DVDs, and other media; by the authors of those works, rather than by a traditional financing Publishing Company, or third-party publisher. In other words, self-publishing means that in addition to writing or creating the work, the author/artist finances the production, manufacturing, replication, publishing and marketing of the entire project. (Either with his/her own money, or with borrowed money). It is basically the starting point of a small business dedicated to producing and selling the final product created by the artist, whether it is a book, musical CD, etc. In most cases, the author's/artist's primary business's goal is to show his/her finished master piece and talent to the world, with the hope of being noticed and of making a profit over time. In Self-Publishing the author/artist gets to control the all the elements of the publishing process and the characteristics of the final product, such as the selection of fonts used in the book to be published, the songs to be included in a musical CD, the artwork, layouts, cover design, print style, pricing, packaging, etc. With Self-Publishing, the author/artist also gets to keep all net proceeds from sales and retain full ownership and all rights, including the ISBN / Barcode of the final product.
